Thanet Volunteer Bureau is a registered charity and for over 27 years we have actively promoted, supported and developed volunteering across Thanet. We now successfully manage a variety of projects including:-
Volunteer Brokerage: We currently have 414 Organisations registered with the Bureau and 1042 examples of volunteering opportunities. In June 2016 we launched our new searchable website enabling organisations to register their opportunities online and potential volunteers to register, search and find opportunities online, continuing our work to better connect volunteers to volunteering opportunities.
DBS Checking Service: The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers and volunteer recruiters make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. It replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA). Contact us to find out about this new service.
A Volunteer Driver Transport Scheme: Supported by a team of volunteer drivers and administrators, this project, with over 800 members, co-ordinated over 19,000 journeys across Kent in 2015, taking people, without access to transport, to medical appointments at Clinics, GP’s, Hospitals, Opticians across Kent.
Thanet Community Support Partnership: through this 5 year lottery funded project we co-ordinate a variety of projects. The first is the Thanet Community Support Partnership, a project which has successfully developed and supported the linking together of organisations across Thanet, with the project providing one point of contact for the variety of services established to help people remain independent in their own homes and reduce isolation. This project recruited over 150 volunteers helping the Partnership deliver group social activities, assisted shopping, befriending, handyman services, lawn cutting, dog walking, transport and personal care. In addition, we also co-ordinate training for volunteers on topics including First Aid, Befriending, Manual Handling and Sight and Hearing Impairment.
Networking: This project co-ordinates monthly networking sessions helping organisations and businesses across Thanet better understand services and resources that are available for older people as well as provide an opportunity to share ideas about good practice and partnership opportunities.
Social Inclusion: Supported by volunteers, this project co-ordinates a very well attended regular weekly social and activities club for older people called ‘Your Time’ in Ramsgate, and as part of the national annual Silver Sunday event we co-ordinate an event at St Augustine’s, that sees up to 400 older people come along to experience a taster of what is available in Thanet for older people.
Thanet Support Directory: This Big Lottery funded project facilitated the development of what has proven to be an extremely popular on line Directory providing a guide to local services, listing other support that may be available for older people – www.thanetsupport.co.uk
Feedback: We encourage feedback from visitors to our website and all service users to share their thoughts about our service. We are developing a feedback form for our service users, but in the interim please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your thoughts.
